Was just watching Attack of the Show on G4TV and I found out that people are filing a law suit against sony for making up a fictitious movie critic who gave rave reviews for people to watch their films from 2000 - 2001. Films like: The Patriot, Hollowman, etc...

I was reading today that the judge upheld the ruling and they have to pay $150 million back. If you went to any of the movies with a quote from the fake reviewer you get $5 off a movie ticket.

"....best movie of the year!"
Root Kunooter News Times of Djibouti

What they don't tell you about that above quote is that the whole sentence reads as follows:

"This movie should have been a scene shot in a toilet bowl after Rosie O'Donnel took a dump after watching the best movie of the year!"

Wonder if they'd come up with a fictitious game developer who gives a review: "the PS3 dev kit has so much more power than xbox360!" just wondering. hmmmm...

Ebert's been complaining about this for years. He prides himself and the magic thumbs on not being for sale, yet other less scrupulous critics go to all the all-you-can-drink studio soirees, where sometimes they literally hand around a list of prepackaged quotes and invite you to sign your name next to one!

This latest development apparently just saves them from having to cough up free booze and bacon-wrapped scallops.

Is it also a conflict of interest when movie studios fly out movie reviewers to premiers?

Sony making up fake critics is actually old news. The new part is the lawsuit. I'm not too surprised they did it though, since it would have been impossible for a movie like A Knight's Tale to get a good review on its own.

oh you think that's a problem? try looking up which newspapers and movie studios are owed by the same parent company, then read the newspapers' reviews of their own movies versus the reviews of that weeks competition. you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

Was on CNN too, they said there was going to be a settlement for people that had seen movies on a list they had compiled.

Going to the theater these days is a waste. There might be one or two good movies a year. A few more are rental-worthy. The rest are garbage.

I've never had a problem determining which is which, and that's just from the commercials. Ignore the "Non-stop thrill ride" BS and you'll be OK.

My unsolicited opinion

Blizzard>MS>RIAA>SONY=EA

at least Blizzard makes great games....MS makes most of our PC's work....can't say much for the rest.
