Eighteen people were hospitalized early this morning, including four Fairfax County police officers and four children, after authorities were called to an Annandale apartment for monoxide poisoning. Police found a generator running inside the home at 3908 Linda Lane.
All were revived by the time they arrived at local hospitals, a county fire official said.
"A totally unsafe act. Under no circumstances should a generator be in a home," said Dan Schmidt, a Fairfax County fire department spokesman.

From the same article, not so much stupid as sad...

In Anne Arundel County, a 50-year-old man was killed when his car slammed into a utility pole on Shore Acres Road near Olmstead. A Richmond motorist died when his vehicle skidded in high water on Interstate 95. And in Albemarle County, Va., a 45-year-old Scottsville man and his 17-year-old son were killed on Route 708 when their 2000 GMC truck slid off the road and slammed into a tree. Three people died in a single car accident on a rural Fluvanna County road late last night, police said. A man was killed walking in Chesterfield County, Va., when a tree fell and pinned him to the ground, officials said.
In an Arlington home, a man spent more than an hour this morning trapped under a tree, while technical rescue team had to cut through other fallen trees to free him. He was taken to George Washington University hospital, but his condidtion could not be learned early this morning.
