inspired by the recent thread by nick who was dealing with a friend at college...

my coworker is a retard

he "built" his own computer and didnt install the heatsink on the p4 correctly

the HSF was only half clipped down...you know the white levers that have to be flipped for the HSF to grab the mounting rack on p4 motherboards? yeah, both of the levers were going the same direction, so only 1 was clipped on


needless to say, it was running hot as crap, BUT it was working fine! he didnt even bring it to me for a problem! i just happened to be looking through the bios and noticed 76C on processor temp :Q

my eyes came out of my head and i was like WTF dude...thats when i opened the case and found his idiocy struck again


the chip works fine though...its a p4 2.66 533fsb and works flawlessly...just thought id share this
 
That's why Intel systems are good for beginner builders. No offense to all you veteran users! Just Intel's stuff is a little bit more bulletproof then the K7 series; although the K8 series has throttling now to.

I know intels stuff will clock down if it gets too hot, so it won't burn itself up. I'm not surprised it survived 🙂
