More Fox Pics

I still can't believe it. This fox was eating sunflower seeds under my birdfeeder, and he let me sneak up on him. I was inside my back door, and he just kept eating while I opened the door and took pictures of him. As long as I didn't move around too much, or make any loud noises, he was more interested in food than safety.

lol, I think he was more afraid of scaring it away..

Nice pics.

It looks hungry.....

Give it some dogfood or something.

Harm you? The thing is the size of a large cat, or a small poodle. HIKE!

Thanks. I'm not worried about the fox running up on me, he's nervous enough to avoid anything bigger than himself. However, I am worried about my outdoor cats - they're out during the day, and in at night. If he's hungry enough to be out scavenging at 4:30 in the afternoon, sooner or later, they're gonna tangle. I've already had one in for stitches, basically from her front leg knee joint around her shoulder. We don't know if it was a fox, but the vet said the teeth marks were too deep to be another cat, and we don't have dogs in the area.

Very nice.

In the summer of 2003 when I was in Ocean City, MD for a week I saw a fox hanging out on the boardwalk. It was crazy... It ran under a house when we got within like 23 feet of it.

Nice pics 😀

He's bigger than a poodle, actually.

Okay, but you get my drift.

You wouldn't want to piss one off, that's for sure...

Great pics ... that thing is all legs! Looks like the bastard love-child of a dog and a cat! Don't be feeding him dogfood or he'll quickly become dependent on you. If you feel you must feed him, never do it in the same place, or establish any sort of pattern. Keep em' coming if you get more.

Great pictures, all the foxes I have seen have been late at night and pretty mangy. You're pretty lucky to have seen one like that this close up.

Thanks, and yes, I am. One of our former neighbors abandoned a couple of cats when she moved away ( :| ), and they've disappeared - we're guessing the foxes ate them. We have no more rabbits out in the yard, and it's been a few weeks since we've seen any raccoons or skunks (not necessarily a bad thing). Even the squirrels are noticeably absent. I'm thinking that food must be getting harder to find, and I know there's one more adult and two pups who have to eat. I don't know why else he'd be out at that time of day.

If I can manhandle a wolf, I can get rid of an attacking fox, that's what I say. 😛

We had a couple of baby foxes for a few days - their mother had either been killed or had abandoned them. They were really cute. We caught them in a live trap and gave them to a guy who is licensed to rehabilitate animals.

That said, foxes can carry rabies, and a lack of fear of humans is one of the signs that an animal is sick. Be careful.
