more f'ing BS from unions

are unions unable to make concessions or something?
USPS is bleeding cash and proposing to cut saturday delivery in an effort to save money. cutting a day unfortunately also means cutting staff.

here's the union leader's argument against the cuts.

"In addition to thousands of jobs lost, there will undoubtedly be an erosion of confidence in the Postal Service's ability to provide the services the public relies on," said Myke Reid, the union's legislative and political director."

really? erosion of confidence in USPS ability to deliver mail because you're cutting a day?
myke, please stfu.

No worse than when I lived in Guam, and worked for the navy there. We were under an outsourcing study, to determine whether it was cheaper to bring in a contractor to do our jobs, or stay with civil service. This study was affecting about 1000 workers at the base.
Our union president, after a "town hall" meeting with the admiral's chief of staff, asked whether the navy had any plans to re-open the chow hall they had closed, so that there would be (are you ready for this?) 22 jobs that could be filled by people in case the study went to the contractor. TWENTY TWO jobs, versus the ONE THOUSAND that were being affected.

Never mind the fact that the fat f*ck always used to eat meals there when that chow hall was open, and was upset when they closed it. 🙄

Bottom line? Union presidents are usually the biggest waste of time, effort and money imaginable.

Unions are greedy. *moar, moar!!!* plus too many of their members make way too much money for the work they do.
In construction, we get way more work done with 3 guys to the unions 6 guys standing/ 1 working / 8 pretending to work. We often work in same areas as Unions do and i do envy how easy they have it. i'm killing myself for half the wage that their taking their time to do with twice the guys to do it with.
Though i wish to have it like they do, they do in fact do less work for twice the money.

Please can I have double the pay for half the workload? That would be a dream come true.

Instead of complaining about the union, join the union and get the benefits. There is much more to a union than people standing around doing nothing.

To the OP, it may not always sound to be the best for the company, but it is in best interest for what he represents there.

Yes, join the union. Its best to steal and loot everything while there's still something to loot. Once the free ride is gone you'll make out like criminals while the US taxpayer is left paying the bills.

Isn't this usually the case with jobs? The more you make the less you do. Look at 80%+ of the managers you have worked for in your life, they usually do not do jack and appear to be oblivious to anything yet make more money.

There's a CEO union now?

I enjoy reading your anti union remarks in threads as you seem to be pro company for everything. I am in a union and love it personally. I may not agree with everything that they get done, but it is best for the whole and I am for that.

Unions do not steal and loot from the company, usually companies do that to the consumers (GMC is the perfect example). The unions just happen to be able to get a fair wage out of the company. Instead of them paying non union labor $10/ hour and making $2B in profits, they have to pay $20/hour and only make $1.8B in profits. Oh the horror.

It doesn't seem to be the case in my line of work. The managers work as hard as the dogsbodies / minions / lackeys.

Or they can just outsource the jobs to India and China and pay those guys 2 dollars an hour. Add in another 2 dollars an hour to bribe local officials and the companies will still be ahead.

I applaud your workplace. It is rare to see managers do anything except bark out orders and appear to be clueless unless they are getting their butt kissed.

Good old Dell for you there. I do not recall their call centers being unionized but I could be wrong. Other places I have called have had Indian (the country) people answer phones for help.

USPS works on saturdays? Here all shipping/mailing companies are off. I wish they did work though... at least it would be one possible day in the week where if they try to deliver, I'm actually home.

lol, you missed the point. why do that, they cut their own throats. So many of our manufacturing jobs are now outsourced....what reason did you think they outsourced for anyway?
There are far fewer construction workers actually working in my area now, their all laid off and have been for over a year. All cause they can't take paycuts or anything, they'd rather lose their jobs ans suck every ounce from companies no matter how well/poor that company is doing...the auto industry should serve as a history lesson.

USPS has always been bleeding cash. That's plain and simple. While technically the USPS doesn't get direct monetary support from the Federal Govt, it has been well taken care of. It's like your parents handing you all the ingredients you need for your lemonade stand and the stand itself. All you gotta do is sustain a profit from then on. Don't mind capital investments.

Yet the USPS is full of fail. Sigh. Fvcking unions.

The auto industry???? LOL !!!! That is the WORST example you can use with regards to union hating. GMC ripped off the American public for so long that they agreed to terms of contracts while continuing to rip off the American public and when it came to bite them in the rear, they resorted to blaming everything on the union. How about their management take most of the blame for being horrible? When GMC did the you pay what we pay, there were several cars with $7k+ off the MSRP and you could bet your bottom dollar that they were STILL making money off the cars. I have no pity for the horrible run company that is GMC. Union labor costs factored into the price of the vehicle were around 10% from what I heard on the news when all that was going on.

No single company should ever agree to a contract where they are losing money and not making a profit. That is a STUPID business decision.

Like I said, I am in a union and have seen both sides, good and bad from unions and have seen good and bad from companies.

I am union and would never go back. People that complain about unions usually have no idea what they are about. True certain "PEOPLE" and certain "managers" or "Business Agents" are lazy, but its stupid to judge a group of people based on the actions and words of one. I get health care paid for, I get retirement, I get a decent wage compared to my non-union counterparts. And I would go toe to toe with anyone who says non-union does higher quality work. I am an electrcian, I am currently on a job with both union and non union electricians. Union JATC programs provide high standards and I KNOW this. True some people are lazy, union and non union. But unions provide things that non unions don't. And I am willing to bet that percentage wise, unions higher a helluva lot less illegals then non union.

See, I can do this also.

Um by the time GM went bankrupt didn't half their costs go to pensions and health care for the retired workers?
