Lesson:

Suppose the minimum bid is $5. I'm willing to pay $15, so I put in $15, and quit worrying about it. Ebay will show a current bid of $5, with the minimum bid of $5.50.

You come along and bid $5.50. You instantly see you're outbid. So, you bid $6.50. You see again that you've been outbid. You ask yourself "who the heck is bidding so fast?" Then you think that I'm sitting in my armchair, glued to ebay, in a frantic bidding war. You keep upping your bid, until finally you beat me at $15.50. This makes you an idiot. If you were willing to pay $15.50, then you should have just bid that in the first place.

Now you're confused. I can hear you thinking "but I didn't want to pay $15.50 if I could have gotten it for $5.50." Well, if you could have gotten it for $5.50, then you would have. Ebay will automatically increment your bids as someone tries to beat your bid. Thus, what you observed wasn't an idiot bidding himself up, but rather some other idiot who doesn't know how Ebay works.

those pics, or that main one at least, are from a... gamespy article about the next gen consoles. their captions were, what the PS3 might look like. but that's where he got the pics from... hilarious.
okay apparently they were concept images of what the PS3 might look like, and have been floating around the web. dunno if gamespy just used them or created them or what. this is where i first saw it though.
