I know there have been quite a few posts about DVDs. And most of you suggest either Pioneer or Toshiba Drives. But what about Sony? I went to CompUSA just to get local pices and the guy said that the sony drives are the most popular. Is the guy full of it or is a salesmen telling the truth(for once). Before I talked to him I was planning on buying the Pioneer based on other posts, but now I'm not so sure. What should I do?

As far as I know sony does not have any dvd-rom drive faster then 12x. so if you want the 16x pioneer or aopen at newegg (rebadged pioneer)it is certainly the best dvd-rom according to all the reviews I have read to date. Toshiba's dvd ripping issues has all but tossed them out of the running in my terms. The early pioneer model of 16x had a problem with dae ripping that the newer 16x model fixed.

As for the sony drives being the most popular is a total farce...just more crap that most cs idiots at large electonic chains babble. Look at the 3 largest oems of computer systems and none of them package a sony dvd-rom drive. Newegg doesn't stock them as well as 3 other large online retailers I buy from. So I think he is wrong...

Microsoft chose QPS Que drives as there recommended DVD-ROM with the release of W2K, and I believe they are rebadged Samsungs. I have a 12x Que DVD-ROM and it is a great drive.
