More current WW2 shooters?

What's the best/most current WW2 shooter out there?

I feel like stomping Nazi's today for some reason.

For multiplayer, Red Orchestra 2 without a doubt imo.
For singleplayer the only recent one I can recall is Sniper Elite V2 which is pretty decent.

theres a Brothers in Arms game coming out in the next couple of months.

Ugh, NO! Avoid at ALL COSTS. It has NOTHING to do with the BiA series or style of gameplay. At all. It's a total bastardization.

Plus, the game looks downright awful even if it didn't have the BiA title.

The best most recent games are Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway and Wolfenstein. The graphics still look pretty good too.

I'll vouch for Red Orchestra 2 as well.

Its a tactical shooter, and will take some time to get your head around. There are quite a lot of realistic variables that make the combat strategic but its still fluid to play and not as clunky as something like Ghost Recon or the Arma series.

There are some servers around but the community is small, just like the first game and the mod. You can always get a decent game of realism though.

Funny as I have been a massive RO fan since mod days circa 2004. If you had asked me for my recommendation of RO 2 6 months ago I would have told you to stay well clear. Its recently had a massive patch and now it it can stand with its head held high as a solid tactical shooter.

Also if you have Battlefield 2, check out Forgotten Hope mod. The level of quality these guys have churned out for the past couple of years is astonishing.

WWII Online gets a lot more hardcore, not really my cup of tea but it has a dedicated following and has been around since forever.

Resistance & Liberation for the Source engine has some interesting ideas and is still getting support but I can't say I ever got on with the game and last time I checked I could not find a full server.

Lastly Iron Front: Liberation 1944 recently released on the Arma II engine. It has more of a focus on long range combat and positioning rather than offering solid upfront in your face infantry combat. Its also very buggy but has a following and worth keeping your eye on if your into your realism.

Day of Defeat: Source is a FPS that's nice and fast paced, if you're into that, if you want something slower, check out Invasion 1944 mod for Arma 2. Forgotten Hope 2 mod for Battlefield 2 isn't a bad choice either. I still play Red Orchestra 1's mod Darkest Hour sometimes, it's still fun.

so RO:2 is now playable? I got it immediately and was totally put off on the game...stopped playing it a month after purchase and moved to the second failure this year (BF:3)...stopped playing both all together...

RO:2 has been patched up to its neck at this point. It plays great now. The community is small, but dedicated.

Yeah its well worth a re-visit and a little bit of patience.

I have played all incarnations of RO since Beta 2.0 for UT2004 and I was a massive fan but I hated RO 2. It was just too broken to be enjoyable.

Now I am really having a good time with it.

Got back on the other night and was sucked in...it had changed a lot since I last played it...

I might as well have a NOOB sticker on my back...have no idea where I am going, what I am doing...just killing what I can!

Glad your enjoying it, what game mode do you play?

There is quite a learning curve, I found it much harder to master than the original RO.

Best advice I can give is just take your time and learn the maps and stick close to plenty of cover.

I played Sniper Elite V2 last night for about an hour. Not too bad. Decent graphics and some fun headshot animations. I won't put much time into it but I liked it enough that I can recommend it.

I found Day of Defeat: Source to be hopelessly clunky. I installed it, played 3-4 rounds and immediately uninstalled it. Really left a bad impression and I typically like Source engine games.

not sure what mode I was in...just logged in...started a map that had a lot of players...

I believe it was a realism mode because I had no idea how much ammo I had and everyone was dying after 1 shot...I didn't put a lot of time in configing things which was probably part of my issue...just ran around on the maps which there was a lot of.

One thing that annoyed me was when I would respawn and I would select my squad leader...it wouldn't put me by him even though he was alive...

The only thing fun about Sniper Elite V2 is the x ray bullet damage, it definitely is not worth buying .
