What's more beneficial in Photoshop for a photographer, ram or cores? A photographer friend needs a new PC but she has strict budget so she can either go for 16gb of ram or 8 core FX. So it's basically either of the following:

FX6300
16GB ram

FX8320
8GB ram
 
RAM only causes a performance problem if you don't have enough of it. It then becomes a huge, overriding performance problem.

So really, you need to measure how much memory your friend's workflow requires. You can do this by watching the Photoshop process's memory usage in Task Manager.
