More bandwidth may be on the way...

I'm going to try to see if I can get any more bandwidth from my isp... I'm pretty sure I'd have to pay $20 or so more for it, so I might set up something to donate money for the pichosting site...

Now I know this would eat up more bandwidth, but joining my forums would be pay enough... because I work very hard on them for such little activity it bothers me...

All in all though, hopefully I can get more bandwidth, and still hopefully not have to ask much from anyone (because I hate to anyways)...

Right now you can see the list of users that we have @ pics.paulsonator.com... there's about 400 megs worth of data for the picturehosting site and I wouldn't even begin to know how much bandwidth being used... but like I say, hopefully more is on the way and I can get you people it for no cost to anyone but myself...

Just a little update from me since I really haven't been letting anyone know about the status of my site or it's services...

why not install webalizer or awstats to guesstimate the bandwidth you're using.. i sure would like to know.. what's your isp? if only AT&T allowed servers i'd probably host my site myself.. :(

Because I want people to use it..

plus it's there for my learning experience, but it all takes a lot of work and effort doing this and it kinda pisses me off when so many can use the hosting site but so few can join the forums and have a little fun..

oh well, I'm grouchy :p

I think you need some sort of incentive for people to join your forums. I mean there's a lot of other forums that have plenty of traffic so people would rather go there. Plus, I don't see the purpose of joining 3 or 4 forums, where all the members are from the same place. Just my 2 cents.

I could be an asshole and make you join my forums before you use my pichosting site, but that's not what I'm about and yeah...

I know there's really no incentive to join, but you can have your own avatar, use html, post w/pics, and pretty much have no limits/ads on the forum, unlike many who require you to either look at ads or pay to not have to see them... I'm trying to provide free stuff w/out ads and any revenue incentive... at some point it's all gonna come crashing down and I'll end up paying outta my pocket to keep things free, but I guess if that's what I must do, so be it.

are you running this off a hosted web site? Or just your own computer. The way I see it, if you run it off your own computer, your not losing anything. Its all a learning experience. However, if your site is hosted else where, then its a different story.

I run the server right outta my house... 1ghz athlon w/384 megs of memory equipped with a 120 gig western digital driving the space...

I didn't know anything about linux about 5 months ago and now that's all I'd ever use as a server...

I'd say, if anything, the information you've learned in the last 5 months is worth all your troubles, even if you have to pay some out of the pocket expenses. Im currently trying to setup a web site by myself, and had to pay for hosted web service. Even though I got scammed by cyberwings once and lost money, the stuff I learned during that time is invaluable. Try to see it as a learning experience.

Yeah it is a wonderful experience to have set up your own forum and web site, feels so fuzzy inside doesn't it? Took me months before and many tries before I finally had one up. Who uses it? Nobody but myself. I use it as a reference for myself only. Special tips, tricks, and how-to's, and know-how's I like to quick reference to.

The website itself is a constant change. Always trying to add new stuff or change things up to make it look useful and professional. Right now it looks like a 5yr old created the site, lol.

Even if you host it yourself, doesn't the ISP put a limit on the bandwidth coming to and from your server?

Thanks for the pic hosting tho. Maybe I'll see you around over there. This is just about the only forum I post on these days although it looks like you've got quite a few enlistee's over there too, cool. :)

Well, I also host other websites too, plus offer space... I don't know how much in total I've used, can't be over a gig so I got a lotta space left (this on a 120 gig hard drive so yeah)
