You might like Kraftwerk, or maybe even Budgie.

I've listened to kraftwerk before and they're nothing like these bands from what i remember. kraftwerk is more electronic music where Nik turner and Hawkwind are more rock.

You probably already know it, but Arjen Anthony Luccassen managed to get Dave Brock as a guest vocalist on the "Space Metal" album by his project Star One.

I recommend very highly Star One as well as Ayreon, but, they are a bit more "metal" than Hawkwind.

Arjen is one of my favorite musicians. I have all of his CDs - Ayreon, Ambeon, Star One, Stream of Passion.

That dude puts out awesome music.

which type of hawkwind do you like, the early or the later. some of the later is more techno than the earlier stuff.

you might like steve hillage and his later gig system 7

not quite the same as hawkwind but I think it similar to the later stuff
Jean Michel Jarre - oxygene (I love the art work on the cover of the album)

I always wondered if chief hawkwind in the tauren starting zone of wow was a reference to the band.

OK, I figured my post was redundant :)

I agree about Ayreon, Ambeon, Star One & Stream of Passion BTW, all excellent projects.

I actually got into Hawkwind because of Arjen....

Anyhow ... on to the "other bands/ideas" ...

Have you heard Øresund Space Collective?
http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2642

I like what I've heard from them.

Also, how well do you like Steven Wilson?
Are you familiar with "No-Man" ? They are more psychedelic/space rocky vs Porcupine tree or his solo stuff or blackfield.

I've heard two of Spacehead's recomendadions, and I can second both of them.
Mr Quimby's Beard & Ozric Tentacles both are great. I am interested in the rest of his recomendations though.

Also, of course, Pink Floyd, but that's a bit too much "captain of the obvious" I suspect....

It must be the earlier stuff then, more of a rock sound than techno.

you need to check out 'chronicles of the black sword', it's based on the elric series of books by Michael Moorcock.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfHtvdgIWws

not all of their later stuff is techno, they did a bit of experimentation. it varies form album to album, they generally keep you guessing as to what they will sound like next

You can sign up for email updates if you like too. I've been listening to those shows for several years now.
