Bloomberg article

I figured this would be coming but I think it's important to keep this in mind while our fearless leaders are debating $700+bln right now. There's going to be more money needed and where is it going to come from??

It's only fair that they give some of this bailout money to us. Just call it "LOTTERY DAY" and give every American citizen $1 million. ;)

After I graduate I'm moving to Canada, the question is.... does my fiancee's student loans follow us there or can we just say fuck it like everyone else is doing with their house loans?

If you went to school you owe the school, simple as that.

This is the stuff that makes me angry, people like you.....

Good luck with that. Getting hired in Canada as a foreigner is difficult.

Also, ditching your student loans is pretty low.

How are people with huge federal student loans different than people with even more expensive mortgages who just got a free pass? Why doesn't the government bail out students and complete its morph into the United States of France? Food for thought.

Ditching your mortgage because you can't afford it is pretty low, too.

*Taps sarcasm meter* Not only am I not moving to Canada, I'm not ditching any loans. Besides, I don't have any, only my girl does :p. But seriously, we plan on paying them off. Curious though, you guys didn't act like it was impossible. I guess it is feasible to ditch them when you go to another country? I thought the credit will follow you, but I guess I was wrong?

the day that Asia, the Middle East and to a lesser extent Europe are not willing to absorb the USA deficits anymore is the day the shit is really going to stink

Well, it will follow you in the sense that the your credit will get destroyed in the US. I don't know if there are any legal repercussions (extradition back to the US) for defaulting on loans. Any credit lines you opened in Canada would be brand new with no reference to the ones in the US.

Interesting Beau, very interesting indeed. Theoretically speaking, if the shit were to get REALLY bad in the U.S. and it was a 'greater depression' if you will, I'd be willing to bet a lot of people would pick up and move. Much more so than we saw in the 1930's because the world is a smaller place, travel is much easier and its just a different time. I wonder how other countries would handle the reverse immigration?

I hope alot of the fear mongering people and the ones that beleive them leave the U.S., it would be better for the country. This bailout shit needs to be dropped, the government shouldn't even be interfearing or telling me I'm going to help everyone pay their mortgage, who is helping me payback my 60k in student loans? I can't even think about a mortgage right now.

I really doubt it. Many foreign students who don't even speak English well had no problem getting jobs.

Anway, what's U.S becoming to? A new capitalish country that works as the worst form of communist country?

The housing crisis is just the tip of the iceberg...

What about the billions in CC debt that people are defaulting on...

Its not just houses.

Bankruptcy, which doesn't apply to student loans.
