Conservatives may have another problem wooing Hispanic voters.

Latino voters are more likely than the electorate in general to support gay marriage, according to exit polls reported by ABC News. The change, which other polling has tracked over the last year, indicates that the fast-growing Latino population may play a pivotal role in expanding gay marriage across the country.

According to ABC:

Nearly six-in-ten Latino voters (59%) said their state should legally recognize same-sex marriage while 32% said their state should not. But among all voters, about half (48%) favored legalization of gay marriage while nearly the same share said they would oppose it (47%).
Non-Hispanic whites were the most opposed to states legally sanctioning same-sex marriage (47% favored but 50% were opposed).

The news poses a problem for conservative opponents of gay marriage who had hoped their view would resonate with Latinos because of the community’s often talked about love for, "traditional family values." While opposition to gay marriage remains dominant among Latino evangelicals, the mainstream opinion among Hispanics appears to be evolving toward acceptance of same-sex couples.

In Latin America, gay marriage has also gained wider acceptance in recent years. Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico City all legalized gay marriage, while countries like Colombia and Brazil have taken steps to extend rights to same-sex civil unions.

Latinos aren’t alone -- exit polls showed a slight majority of black voters, 52 percent, also supported gay marriage. Last week, African Americans played a key role in passing Maryland’s gay marriage law, with 46 percent of black voters supporting the measure, according to The Washington Post. While that may not seem like much, it’s a big change from 2008, when 70 percent of black voters favored banning gay marriage in California.

For the past 15-20 years the Republicans anti gay marriage platform has been a bedrook of their ideology and has brought tens of millions of them out to vote. Now there has been a dramatic change in voters opinion on gay marriage. Its a virtual collapse of the anti gay marriage numbers.

The Republicans still don't understand why they don't get hispanic votes seeming to believe stereotypical views of hispanics as "macho" and "family values". Turns out hispanics have been highly politicized over the past 15 years. Which is normal when one of the two political parties has run on a platform that says you are demons who are destroying America.

And, black people who used to be against gay marriage by a lot are now for it. I guess when the political party that hates gay marriage tries to keep you from voting you find common ground with gay marriage supporters. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

And the wonderful part of the story is that with young people so overwhelmingly for gay marriage the numbers will be even more pro gay marriage every year.
What's a Republican who hates fags going to do?

They are going to have to ditch their racist base to woo these folks over which I think is going to be impossible. ;)

Why is the democrat party so racists against white men?

Being against gay marriage does not mean one 'hates fags'.

Yeah it just means that you would deny freedom to other people in the name of your "God". Way to think it through.

Doesn't matter. The people who oppose gay marriage (particularly those who do so vehemently and vote to keep it from happening) are analogous to horse-drawn carriage manufacturers facing the invention of the automobile.

It's probably time (or will soon be time) for you all to pick some other social issue to bitch about.

Fluoride in drinking water seems to be one of those super important conservative issues. Hmm, or good old burning witches at the stake? That always gets the base riled up.

Yea, they were pretty stupid about that, but the difference is that it wasn't expected, everyone know Obama was going to win, well, except Spidey.

Sure it does. Just like not being in favor of giving free birth control pills, even to women who can afford them, means you hate women. Not being in favor giving all women free abortions means you hate women. Believing that people should immigrate to this country LEGALLY means you hate Latinos. The list goes on and on...

I can't wait 'till the day when priest/pastors get thrown in jail for refusing to give birth control to women due to their intransigent ways.

I'll have mountains of popcorn ready...

What does Obama have to do with it? Other than your attempt to divert attention away from being on the losing side of the issue, nothing.

Obama never "vehemently" opposed gay marriage or voted to keep it from happening.
