the great boondoggle continues. likely a freighter version won't be produced now. there aren't any orders for it (there had been 25).

on a related note, french workers plan a one day strike in protest of the restructuring plan and the german workers may join them.

FedEx cancelled their orders a few months ago if I recall correctly. Any customers left for the freight carrier versions?

No one is left now that UPS cancelled their shipments but it'll probably be for the best for Airbus and UPS as it now allows Airbus to use the majority of their resources on their main line of business (passenger airline) and allows UPS to move their capital to a different manufacturer.

They'll probably get some business back once they demonstrate that they can actually deliver the planes. Of course Boeing has an opportunity to get some of those sales in the meantime.
You need to execute in business. Great product design is not going to fly if you can't build it.

I think that's actually good news, IIRC they save ?2B by canning the freighter version of the A380

IMO, it is hard to argue that the loss of revenue (200-300M USD per plane) and basically ceding the market for very large freight aircraft (for the time being anyway) to Boeing is a good thing.

Well UPS was the only remaining freigh customer at his point, so with that little volume they'd never break even on the overhead. (WSJ had a numbers on how many frieght planes they needed to sell to break even).

You can't argue that it's a good thing that they lost all the revenue by Fedex and others cancelled their orders, but it's a good thing that UPS finally cancelled, because at those production numbers, the freight division would be a loss leader.
