2. If all AMD wanted was some cheapass integrated solution, then they can just buy out S3 Graphics or Matrox for 1/5 the price (or less). They didn't need to buy out ATi unless AMD wanted to plug a powerful graphics solution into their HT bus. Imagine an HT bus slot that allowed the graphics solution to directly write to memory without passing through the north bridge, coupled together with DX10's partitioning of graphics memory space...all of a sudden, you have a virtual 3GB video memory card that knew how to very quickly swap out textures without programmer intervention...now you get the idea. =)
