Yup, more abuses of the PATRIOT act by the FBI:

http://blog.wired.com/27bstrok...4/fbi-director-ci.html

Investigating a possible suspect, an FBI agent appropriately got a subpoena to get a students records from NCSU. The problem with this? The Director of the FBI made the agent return the documents and made the agent issue a NSL under the PATRIOT act.

NCSU refused it (since it wasn't applicable, and they refused as they should). So the director then testified to Congress about how they were being delayed in investigating terrorists, and how the FBI needed the ability to get any/all records they want without going through the court system. In other words, they wanted to be able to get whatever they wanted on anyone, anytime, without any oversight.

So the FBI deliberately lied, and help up their own investigation to try and get more power without any oversight. And for like the past 3-4 years, we find out that the FBI *already* abuses the NSL's, and are found to use them for all manner of cases when they shouldn't. And every time, the FBI says sorry and promises to change, which they never do.

Just another one of Bush's team doing what they do best, breaking the law, lying to Congress, grabbing more power for themselves.

In the words of Bush himself, "Freedom is on the March" I guess we should have asked beforehand whether he meant marching forwards or backwards. Because obviously our freedom isn't moving forwards, but backwards.
