Ok, ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe came in today, built my system around it. Had a blast with it so far, and everything has been rock stable over the past 12 hours, which has included Half-Life 2, numerous program installs, 3dmark03, MemTest, and others.

Anyway, I set the PEG link speed in the BIOS to normal from auto and found that my 6600GT now boots up at 515/1030 instead of the stock 500/1000 it's supposed to be set at. I enabled manual overclocking via coolbits and clocked it back down to 500/1000 only because I'm not overclocking yet. I want to torture test everything at stock for a good week or so to give it a chance to burn in and make sure everything is as it should be. I do plan to overclock in the near future, probably after purchasing an EATX PSU and an aftermarket cooler for the CPU.

Anyway, has anyone else had this PEG speed/overclock issue with their card? I had actually read about it over at Toms, they had the same deal with a 6600GT and had to set PEG link to slow to get the card to come up stock.

Any ideas?

Yup, apparently slow = normal and normal = overclocked.

Now I'm kind of dreading purchasing this mobo because of the bizzaro board-no-likey-RAM-over-240 MHz thing, but I'm leaving the country in a week so I don't have much time left to assemble this horrible mess.

It seems to have kinks, but since it's very green technology, I can forgive it. I have noticed that the board is very good at detecting exactly what your hardware wants on Auto. My CPU is pullin .1V less than rated, but it's been plenty stable so far. That .09nm process AMD has really doesn seem to drop heat and power consumption. My CPU idles around 29 - 30C, and doesn't even break 40C under load. My motherboard idles at 32C for goodness sakes!

Anyway, yeah, let's hope in a few weeks ASUS will have sorted out the BIOS issues, because right now that's all that seems to be holding this board back.

You have to set it to Slow which "ASUS promises will disable PEG link" (read somewhere). I believe the Auto setting is defaulted to Normal.
