MORDAUNT SHORT MS904 TOWER CHERRY PAIR $289

MORDAUNT SHORT MS906 TOWER CHERRY PAIR $449

Audio review gives them favorable reviews except to say that the 904 model has really weak bass....so a sub is necessary.

Oh yes...the woofers are alluminum....ie....stunningly beautiful.

$300 for a nice set of floor-standers isn't unreasonable....

I am a college student and I bought 2 Mirage Floorstanders for $400...

I worked for months for them.....

EDIT:

I also bought a $400 reciever and a $320 Sub.....I paid for everything.

Study + work = Future succes...with goodies to get you compnay on the way...

Obviously once I graduate I will dump my "junk" and get some B&W's or just better Mirages....with a 7x300Watt Adcom amp fed by a nice reciever....

I'd go Krell and Anthem or B&K but I'm not there to decide just yet...

Don't waste your time with Adcom if you're planning on dumping your "junk". I'd personally go Bryston. Like B&K, it's a Canadian company and you get a ton for your money. On top of that, Bryston has a 20 year transferrable warranty. Good stuff if you're looking higher end.

Adcom is just overpriced mid-fi garbage. Actually, there's nothing really bad about Adcom, but nothing really great about them either. I wonder why some companies get a good rap like this. Kind of reminds me of Bose (not that I'm comparing Adcom to Bose). It's just that some people get it in their minds that this stuff is really good, when it's nothing spectacular at all. You can do a lot better for the money is the bottom line.

Bryston amps are NOT cheap, but they are well worth the money and with the 20 year warranty (I've heard of them even honoring it past the 20 years), the resale is great on the amps. Much better than anything else out there. Oh.. They sound terrific too and they make awesome multi-channel amps. I'd put the Bryston amps up there closer with Krell and Mark Levinson amps than I would B&K. B&K is still a great value. So is Anthem. Anthem is the budget line of Sonic Frontiers in case you didn't know. All Canadian companies and all great values.

Take a look at the Adcom GFP-750 preamp and then tell me "Adcom is just overpriced mid-fi garbage." There are honestly no preamps out there that that can match its price to performance ratio. Their other stuff is another matter (except maybe the GCD-750 CD player). Bryston is good, but its really somewhat of an acquired taste that some people never gel with (much like higher end Klipsch speakers). To be honest Bryston is not really that close to Krell and Levinson at all. I will not argue about Bryston's warranty though, because their warranty really is the best in the business, I have heard stories where they have completely replaced the entire circuitry on 20 year old amps (that means transformers, circuit boards, volume controls - basically everything but the chasis). However, some people just don't like their sound as other products on the market, on the other hand some people really love the sound of their Brystons - you have to listen to be sure.

As for B&K, you are right that they are a rung below most.
