morality poll

is it morally wrong to profit from tragedies such as 9/11 or hurricane katrina?

a good example is by investing in stocks that are directly impacted by such events.

hell no...unless what you do actually worsens/adds to the tragedy...like say if you had bought stocks in Dubya's hurricane generating contractor immediatedly prior to the event...

If you are legally investing in companies that will see more business because of some sort of tragedy... then it's not morally wrong.

But if you are doing something that more along the lines of scamming people or playing on their hard luck... then definitely.

But it sounds like you mean the first oen which is just fine.

wrong to invest in stocks profiting from war or relief of natural disasters? no

wrong to put up a market cart in front of where the 9/11 towers stood selling "CNN live broadcasts of the tower's being hit by planes" next to your "Girls gone wild: in afghanistan!" video tapes.... YES
