Wow, is this getting off tangent. A business employs people, if a business wants to be successful, it has to watch the bottom line. To many mistakes like the op mentioned and Newegg would most likely have to close down and let go of all its employees.
Personally, I would love to keep the said item but I would return it.

My philosophy is simple, to a good company like NE, I will return it. To a terrible company that screwed me, I will keep it. There was a company I dealt before I started ordering from NE, they keep sending lower end versions of what I ordered and refuse to return money to me, had to threaten to talk to BBB/AG before they returned my money and only original amount not the money I spend shipping stuff back and forth. To that company, sure I'd keep it, deserve what's coming. But not NE.

Why would you continue doing business with someone that has screwed you?

It works the same way as if $1,000,000 ended up in your bank account. Are you just trolling CPU's with this entitlement dogma?

as opposed to this undefined "doing the right thing" dogma?

Why is returning something you did not order, nor request, the 'right' thing?

And if a million dollars just ended up in my account from a company, I'd ask a lawyer if i could legally keep it.

All this talk about good karma, being a good citizen. makes me laugh.

Well really how is reversing neweggs bad mistakes being a GOOD citizen.

All these high horse rollers in here talking about good job.. blah blah blah.

All these people saying to do the right thing are look for a pat on the back.

Trying to falsly prop themselves as if they were doing something 'right'. Its all public bs.

Do what you want to, and dont talk about it ethier way.

+1. some people however can still take the shaft.

But there is a huge difference between, joe smith walking down the street and losing money vs Big Corp doing the same thing

Not really. Big Corp can probably absorb it, but there is always an equal reaction to an act. If they lose 1% of their inventory, then they lose 1% of their profits, the investors lose 1% of their profits, The government loses 1% of their taxes, and the people who work for those investors lose 1% of their income. Just beacuse you can't see the reaction doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I have to admit, I would be selfish. I would think of what would make me happy first.

Through some tough times I've learned that the joy from getting new "stuff" lasts far shorter than I think it will. And the little cuts on my psyche from these acts that nobody else knows about, they last longer and add up quicker than I ever think they will.

So in a momentary rush of greed, I might keep it. But given a little time to think about it, I'd call them too send me a prepaid return box.

Not because I'm moral. Because I'm selfish.

Good luck.

this explains a lot of your synapse misfirings.

It's clear you are very poor and dangerous to the rest of the civilized people out there.

I'm not saying what I would do, but what I wouldn't do, is get my moral guidance from a bunch of anonymous , internet ' Dear Abbys ' ...

Probably time to lock this one down, or move it to a relevant forum ...

Wondering if you have a brilliant sense of irony or you are hilariously oblivious to the contradiction between your handle and your comment.

Those who espouse finders keepers are in for a rude awakening, the day they become parents.... Or the day you're on the loosing end. Then I'm sure the tides would change.

Yea, kinda ironic that their morality or lack thereof is always a one way street. When the shoe is on the other foot the story always twists and turns to how "da man", "da system" or "big corporations" screwed them over and how they should've been done right rather than wronged.
