Apparently took place a bit ago, before the Abu Ghraib abuses became publicly known. Parts of al-Sadr's preachings had to do with American torture and execution in its own prisons. Then the Abu Ghraib mess goes public and that just plays right into his recruitment propaganda.

But, from what I gathered (fixing dinner and doing laundry so I was only half paying attention), the crux of this Shi'a uprising is anger at the U.S. for allowing Saddam to slaughter Shiites in 1991 instead of helping them in their rebellion to overthrow Saddam.

When can i see this?

Seems like forming an opinion on the Iraq situation would require one to examine the arguments from both sides of the conflict.

Thanks conjur.

Andy Rooney's segment is showing photos of all the US soldiers killed in Iraq- albeit without their names.

Took a good 7-8 min. with 2 pictures/second that I saw (part was cutoff to local coverage of storm damage updates)

To those who created a thread earlier that this war has gone well because there were so few lives lost compared to other wars, well, I ask you watch that video memorial and tell me this war has gone well. 800 brave men and women have lost their lives for the PNAC vision supported by our feckless President. They deserved so much more.

If you get past the rhetoric, you can see where the true anger lies...as I posted earlier.

The fact that we did not support the shiites in 1991 pissed me off as well. The Generals and Bush were stupid to allow Saddam to use his helicopters to destroy the uprising. Of course they were afraid that the shiites would create another Iran which appears to be the case. If only the bloody bastard's would just embrace Democracy.

Indeed they did. Tis' a pity that your hatemongering political agenda of half-truths and deceit is too selfish to afford it to them though.

"Allah works in mysterious ways" is yet another example of how fanatics here and abroad are so similar and so dangerous. I have heard right-wing nut Christians say the same thing about their god so many times. Each side should look at each other and see how stupid they themselves look.

Yeah I'm sure Sadr has purely selfish motives since he is an Iraqi.

The anger in that guys's eyes was palpable. He looked like he could slit the interviewer's throat on a moments notice.

Regardless, it sounds like Bush, Ver. 1.0, screwed up badly. I doubt Clinton did anything to help the problem.

So, now that we have killed the little snake, al-Sadr wants to kill the BIG SNAKE. Does anyone think this is good news for our Picnic on the Euphrates?

That guy's a fuknut. How many times did he say "my friend", and why would he not simply look up? Where I come from, if you want to be taken seriously, look into the eyes of the person you're talking to, and speak with confidence.

"Allah works in mysterious ways.." Yeah, way to not answer the question, you jackass.

I'd like to see him on the receiving end of an airstrike.

Try not to be so stuffed on yourself. Where I come from eye-to-eye contact is a prelude to violence many times, and that's right here in the US.

:) Right. And when is the last time you've the president or any of his stooges JUST ANSWER A GODDAMN QUESTION?

Tough guy huh? I'd bet you were one of the main people whining and bitching when Al-Qaeda got lucky. "We didn't do NOTHIN', they hate us for NOOOO reason!!!"

This is the kinda of thinking that's fueling the hatred against the US throughout the world. This "you're with us or you're against us" attitude.

Read the news my friend, Moqtadr al-Sadr is against the US. From what I have read, not many of the other clerics in Iraq care much for him either.

I never said he was with the US. Just refer to HardWarrior's post above mine. I'm just adding to that post.

I don't really care. My deal is this: I hate fundamentalist Islam. I hate the people who practice it because they are against personal freedom, against the idea of equality for women, against tolerance and acceptance of other ways of life. It's not just Islam against the West, either; it's also the Muslims against the Hindus, and Muslims blowing up Buddhist temples in southern Thailand.

I'm sorry, but I do not consider these people to be human beings, nor do I feel that they should be regarded with the courtesies and priviledges of such. If my attitude fuels hatred, so be it. I want to see these people exterminated.

Cute. Just don't forget that they feel the say way about you or that your sensibilities matter only to YOU.

The only hate here is your hatred of those critical of this administration and its complete and utter failures.

One day you'll know the truth, too, and you'll regret your blind support of Bush and his neocon chickenhawk buddies.

Okay. And you'll probably be one of the biggest whiners when they find a way to slaughter another big bunch of us. "We didn't do nothing to them... :( I just wanted to see them exterminated cause they ain't like me... "

The Ugly American lives!
