It just got a bleak review (bleat review? no, not that sheepish) on GameSpot, and the gamespot reader reviews are even more brutal.

It's looking like MOO3 came from the other end, just like HOMM4.

I played it for a little while. It was so incredibly boring. My friend tried to convince me it would be more fun if we played with a bunch of us online. He was wrong.

I think I'll wait for that $70CDN price tag to come down before I even experiment.... or try out a friend's copy? [shrug]

Mind you, I remember LOTS of complaints about MOO2... but maybe they made it a little TOO complex this time. :(

recomend reading the forum at moo3.com, even the hardest fans are bashing the game, though some say its extremely good if you get into it. But generaly people are saying that first impression is bad, very bad

personaly my first impressions for the first 5-10 minutes were horrible, reminded me of a 1994 shareware game

Are the problems patchable, or is MOO3 flawed beyond repair?

Way more fun to read all the bashing on the forums than it is to play the game. It's craptacular. The first time I saw the tactical combat I felt a great wave of embarrassment for the developers.

The only patch released so far is a data patch. It took them 2 MONTHS (or however long it's been since release) to simply change some text files, test the changes and release them. Changes that had been made by the fans long ago.

The game is fundamentally flawed, no amount of patching will fix it. Even if it COULD be fixed, it won't be by this team. The game had NUMEROUS easy to fix (known) bugs at release and the team hadn't even STARTED on a patch in the entire MONTH between going gold and actual release.

I loved MOO and MOO2. *sniff* :brokenheart:

LOL there's not much more you can say about a bad game than that! :) LOL!

Oh, and just for the record, ShadowBane sucks @ss too! What a piece of garbage...

I bought it right when it came out, was eagerly awaiting it, and I was sorely disappointed.
It just is not fun. It feels more like I'm performing a chore than playing a game. I played it for a couple weeks, and I was doing alright in the game I had going, but I said to myself, "this isn't fun, why am I playing this?" It is like solitare: good to pass time when there is nothing else to do, but you've got a computer and there are plenty of other fun games to play. But that's just my opinion.

Sounds like no matter HOW cheap I can get it, it's STILL a bad deal... :Q
$25cdn instead of $60 sounded so good at the time.... :(

I have it, and don't like it. (Though admittedly I haven't put a whole lot of time into it.) I also have Galactic Civilizations, which I consider to be a superior game thus far.

OK, ok. I confess. I bought it for full retail price (oh, the humliation). But you don't have to end up like me! DON'T BUY IT!

I loved MOO and MOO2 and thought (stupidly), "How bad could it be? It's MOO3!"

Man... I was still all excited about a cool new MOO-style game.
I hear there are a few games out there similar in nature (4x space-empire genre) but I can't remember what...
(I'll have to search.) ;) But do they have the whole research-points, new-technology, race choices, race-editing stuff that made MOO2 just so darned awesome?

The perfect game would be MOO2's race-picks and combat system with MOO1's planet info sliders and research system.
With fancier graphics, though 3D is NOT required.

Original MOO2 player, and I must say MOO3 sucks.
I used to be able to play moo2 for hours, but you just can't do it with 3.
They took away the micromanagement funness and made it all about diplomacy and battling each other!

Absolutely! GalCiv is actually FUN, which MOO3 is not. GalCiv has all those fun morality choices, i.e. do you want to wipe out the indigenous population of your new planet in order to improve production :) Fun diplomacy too, "we have decided to liquify your race and spread you on our toast"
