There will be no service at all during the nights and weekends. At the same time, taxis have hiked their fares. There is going to be a lot of drunk driving going on :|

These guys already make $50,000. That's a heck of a lot of money especially considering I won't make near that after graduating college.

I suppose it's good that at least there's some service. It it wasn't for the Essential Services council, there wouldn't be any transit at all on the island.

Montreal Gazette:

""I have been walking almost five kilometres now," student Mark Lewis said after trying to enter a second locked subway station after morning rush-hour service had ended."

"Provincial legislation has forced striking maintenance workers to provide at total of nine hours of service in the morning, afternoon and late evening. "

"About 1,500 of the union's members are mechanics or skilled workers. They earn about $23 per hour.

"Under a plan approved by the province's Essential Services Council, the transit system will operate on weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. There will be no service on weekends. "

"Stranded commuters who turned to taxis had to dig a little deeper into their wallets because Monday also marked increased taxi fares. "

"The essential services legislation enacted in 1983 is a novel Quebec method designed to protect public health and safety while preserving the rights of workers, said Michel Grant, a professor of labour studies at the University of Quebec at Montreal. "

"One of the longest transit disputes in Canadian history left Montreal residents on their own for nine months in 1979. Vancouver had no transit for four months 2001 until the province ordered employees back to work. "

Would the Prime Minister have the authority to fire all their worthless asses, kinda like President Reagan did with the air traffic controllers back in the 80s?

Let's see. Because they are on strike, they are worthless.

Yes that was one of many get moves by Reagan administration. All you Republican blow hards and the antiunion sentiment around here makes me sick.

And no, you don't have to go to college to make 50K a year.

Is this directed toward me? I can't tell if you're saying that they obviously went to college, or if you're saying that it's easy to make 50k without going to college.
Either way, I wasn't BSing when I say I'm not going to be making near as much when I graduate in my chosen field of study, which is Computer Science.

It just seems to me that many people believe one has to go to college to make a decent living. This isn't true.

Yeah, I know it's not true. In fact, I'm not sure if I made a mistake going into computer science. You can make a lot more money in fields that only need some technical school, like electrician, construction, etc.... I'll certainly make a lot more and be a lot happier than at a McJob, but still...
