Montreal Judge Rules on Foreign Satellite Service!

To bad it will probly be appealed for the next 5 years and never come about any time soon 🙁

Just want to watch all these reality shows we have don't you 😛

And the mass of Canadians who legitimately pay for satellite TV cheer.

Come on, speak up now. 😛

To bad it's just one judge and one saying it does nothing but make people think it's right only to find out that you get sent to federal pound me in the a** prison still 😀

I don't really watch TV, but if I did I wouldn't be paying for it.

they're beaming the signal at my house, I'm just decoding it. if they don't want me to watch it, they better think of a way to not send it to my place (not possible). so yeah.

That's like saying, they have free mp3's on the internets so if they have it where I can get it then it's not my fault 😛

Are you sure enough to call up the RIAA and give them your address? 😀

Then again it's not illegal in the US if you can say it's for backup 😛

The RIAA can't do squat outside the US anyway.

But 2 courts have upheld the right to download music in Canada. RIAA be damned.

Wait a second...that article mentions paying for satelite and hten grey-market systems for decoding the system? Are the referenceing paying and getting American satellite service or jsut illegally decrypting the signal?

EDIT:

Because if it for the former than the case was worthy of acclaim. In indeed references and legitimizes piracy, I certify that the courts decision for idiotic at best.

Technically speaking any US satellite service is illegal here. Whether or not you are paying for the service.

The Judge ruled that it is a violation of our constitutional rights of free expression.

Not really. It's like saying they put up a billboard on the street in front of my house in pig latin and want to charge me for the translation. Oh, and if I translate it myself I'm stealing.

Not quite:

2 Courts (one Appelate) have ruled that it is legal for Canadians to download copyrighted music as long as we don't upload it. Its in our Copyright Laws. That's why the Judges ruled in that manner.

Not really. The record companies aren't putting MP3's on the 'net up for grabs with just a decoding device.
The satellite companies are.
You download music from someone besides the actual music provider.
