Disappointing Forza 3 sales. Although the funny thing is that Borderlands for the 360 made the top 3 but PS3 isn't anywhere in sight.

Disappointing Forza 3 sales.

Hard to tell because it only had 4 days worth of sales. The other two big releases from that same week were Ratchet & Clank and Tekken 6. Neither of those made it into the top 10.

Looks like the PS3 is sustaining its lead against XBOX 360 while the Wii has regained its usual place at the top. The PS3 already dominates Europe and Asia. Could America be next?

The 360 has a close to 9 million unit lead in the US. If the PS3 was outselling the 360 by 250,000 units a month(which it isn't close to- although it was this month) it would take 3 years for it to pass the 360 here. On a global basis the way things are trending it seems to be a safe bet that the PS3 will surpass the 360 before 2013 hits, but in the US it will likely be well after the launch of the next generation before that happens barring a major collapse by MS or a major upswing by Sony(larger then the Slim upswing).

PS3 has a good lead over the 360 this month as expected. Vary bad news for the PSP Go though.

As a fan of Tenacious D, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (Station!), and metal I'm solidly in the target audience. But the reviews have been so (ahem) brutal that I haven't even looked for a demo.

They also stated that overall game sales are down 19% for October.

Forza 3 has had poor sales in Japan, considering it's the only Country with positive growth.

The 360 has a 1 year lead and countless re-buys from their 66% failure rate right out the door. Their sales are too skewed to compare to PS3 sales. Forget sales, let's see active gamertags versus active PSN accounts. That's the only real comparison.

Interesting line of thought. iirc, the XBOX 360 sold like 36M but how many of those are still in use? Multiply that by a conservative 75% and you're down to 27M. Multiply it by an aggressive 46% and you're down to 16.56M. I think the number may be close to 25M. Also, I wonder how MS Live is outside the United States? Is it as good?

Most failed units get refurbished and sent back out. Replacements sent out by MS don't count as sales. So the massive failure rate really shouldn't skew the numbers that much... unless you really think millions of people just tossed them in the trash and bought new ones at retail.

Can't really use that either cus I'm sure there are many people who buy them and never connect them to the internet.

Well of COURSE Forza 3 is going to sell poorly in Japan... it's an Xbox 360 exclusive in a country that has no more than five Xbox 360s in it at any given time! But it would have sold poorly there anyway even if it was multiplatform... I think Japanese gamers prefer the Gran Turismo series so they can get 100 different versions of the Nissan Skyline.

Others already correctly noted that 360s get replaced by MS more often than not so there's isn't much if any skew there.

As for the gamertags, neither MS or Sony are willing to share that information. Sony claims over 20 million without denoting which are for PS3s, which are for PSPs, and which are just people who made one without owning Sony anything (like me!). MS claims over 20 million without denoting which are Silver and which are Gold.

MS did announce that they reached over 2 million simultaneous users though on Tuesday when MW2 was released.

The 360 started to gain a lot of steam in Japan with all the exclusive RPGs it had. I mean the PS3 still dominates, but the 360 started doing better there than expected for a while.

I still am amazed that half a million Wii's are sold each month...that is staggering. I can't imagine the landfills in a couple of years.

Yep, more sales for them. The 360 is so easy to pirate for, but soon or later you end up paying for it by having to buy another 360. Which ups the sales again.

Why would anyone throw out a Nintendo product ? I bet 90% of Nintendo's 20 year old products still work.

I don't get your line of thinking. The 360 had a 3 year warranty for the RROD. I would be willing to bet that the majority of broken 360's were repaired or replaced on warranty. The replacements are refurb units and even if they were brand new they wouldn't be counted because they were not shipped to stores.
