Congrats Team on achieving our 1.5x goal! I try to make at least one goal within reach to motivate for the next ;)

Someone should warn Oregon Power. Mark might be tempted to try and deny the team 2x goal and fire up some old inefficient iron to hold us off?
I do have 3 old Xeon E5-2683v3 14 core....And a 4790.. and a couple so old they are not worth powering on . Lets see 14 core * 3 * 2(SMT) thats 84 right there !

Update.... Just put in a bid on another 7742, another 128 threads !!!! Takes as much juice as one of those 2683v3's but almost at the same speed, but 64 cores instead of 14. Might have to retire my last 2683v3.

Edit: actually, its now 2 7742's. Buy would I like to have a 256 thread box ! I may not get one of them tho, kind of underbid.

Probably should be another thread, but Mark are you using ES Epyc still? What motherboard, RAM, and CPU cooler are recommended? These fit normal large ATX cases and power supplies?

Thanks!

And the team is going to catch you 2x :) I also added an S3, S4!, and a Note 3!!. You are doomed :tonguewink:

Yes, all my 7742's are ebay, for between $2000 and $2500 each. I usually use ASRock EPYCD8-2T and 16 gig 2666 ECC registered memory modules.

BTW, both my bids got turned down, so you guys are safe for now

Day 2 stats. I inserted columns for all of the days to try to make the formatting consistent and to show how many "laps" are left. :)

The forum automatically resizes the columns so I hope it will still fit properly when there are numbers for all of the days...

I also added commas to make the longer numbers easier to read, and a Total column to track the total amount done for the week.

Everything that I have is running WCG, including some old 4 thread laptops that I normally don't bother with. But I figured I'd give them a workout for this challenge and then turn them off again. ;)

Where do I store old laptop power cords? Running out of additional compute to catch Endgame.

Those who I will call the "Funky Bunch" are slowly creeping up on the 2X Goal to surpass a fellow team member, who for this race I am thinking of calling "Marky Mark". Will there be enough time to overtake? Not at this pace! We need to recruit!

To assist, I have tried to do some of this compute by hand, but this math is hard! Even using computer paper did not seem to help after two failed attempts. Maybe the maths will work after lunch? Must keep the machine fed.

You may have seen this popping up in the BOINC Notices:
OpenPandemics - COVID-19 Now Running on Machines with Graphics Processing Units

The news article links to the following FAQ:
Getting Started/ Graphics Card Processing

Summary of the news and the FAQ:
  • The GPU port of Autodock now went from beta test to production for the OPN1 project.
  • It brings a large performance boost, which will not just speed up the project but will subsequently be used to study more complex molecules.
  • GPUs with OpenCL 1.2 compatible driver are supported (AMD, Intel, Nvidia).
  • By default, World Community Grid does not send GPU tasks. If you want those, you need to enable GPU computing in your device profile(s), es described in the FAQ.
  • You may even set a profile in which only the new GPU work is received, but not the conventional CPU-only work. However, CPU work is still useful to the OPN1 project just from the viewpoint of total available computer time. And of course, the other WCG subprojects only use CPUs, not GPUs.
  • Credit for GPU work will be runtime based... somehow.

Who is @sashleycatty ? not an andandtech member, but on our team ?????

he/she has been number 2 until the race, and now he/she is consistently 3rd or 4th.

At some point, they changed their user name to TESKATLIPOKA. Seems fairly active in the CPU and Graphic Cards forums. Used to have a link to https://www.sashleycat.com/ in their profile/signature.

I don't think I've seen them post anything here in Distributed Computing...

Edit: Never mind. StefanR5R found them as AshlayW.

I mentioned the possible name change because I found some posts about and from TESKATLIPOKA referring to "their" content on sashleycat.com... So maybe a second account?

It will look tomorrow same as today:
There is a very limited supply of GPU tasks issued, at least for the time being.
-> OpenPandemics subforum at WCG, thread "Work unit availability"

(Edit: The rate of work generation is limited, not the work as such.)
