Yeah, HP has partnered up with Monster for a big cross promotion deal with the Beats by Dre marketing.
They're even getting it into phones and tablets. The sad thing is, they're finding success because most companies are not putting any effort into the audio on their products, so they can pretty easily sound better, but its still junk. Of course it looks like Monster is trying to pull their same old tricks.
the [H] did a review of the headphones a while back and needless to say, they were not impressed.

Yeah the headphones are overpriced and were prone to breaking (sound like any other company we know?), although Monster does make some ok headphones. The Beats Studio are supposed to be better (more balanced sound, I believe they got rid of the electronics that the other Beats have, they have a built in noise-cancelling amplifier thing). The Monster Turbines were actually not bad (made me think of IEM version of the Denon headphones that are pretty well liked). With all the other worthwhile products and brands, I couldn't justify buying any of Monster's headphones though, especially if they keep pulling crap like this.
Sony's new headphones that are aimed at similar market often sound better and are considerably cheaper (also much below their MSRP). I actually like the look of them better (looks like a headband with two giant earpads, on the XB1000 its actually ridiculously massive).
Skullcandy is supposedly even getting serious about sound quality actually. The Aviators are actually supposed to sound good.
