Monster.com job board question

Is it legal for a company to ask its own employee to update his/her resume but add the company's name and contact person information on it.

(I'm a consultant and was told to do this to add another avenue of securing clients)

I don't know about the legality of a company using monster as a sales tool. even though they are marketing me, their own employee, for my services to customers.

In ATOT lingo: is it okay for my pimp to pimp me out on monster?

said pimp still pays me on salary. it was a "suggestion" since i'm on the bench.

but, what i'm more concerned is if Monster would allow this? i sure don't want my account banned.

Monster probably doesn't care. I'm not familiar with their TOS, though, so you might want to check that first.

Oh i think i get it - instead of company name/what you do there you type in the company contact person and contact info.

I thought you just meant in your ref section put them there.

Yeah thats a little sketchy as its more like advertising at that point than resume information.

exactly. that's my concern. because it becomes more of an advertisement than a resume

When I have gone through a contract I will put the client/agency in the resume ( if the agency worked well for me)

Neither Monster nor any law controls what you put on your resume online. You can put anything you want; it's legal. Now on to the practical questions.

If you're working for a consulting company it is very typical for them to rework your resume, brand it as theirs, and put their contact info on it. It's usually submitted to hiring companies that they already have sales contacts with, not cold submitted on to Monster. There's nothing wrong with that but it's also not likely to be very effective.

If this is a headhunting agency that's branding you as theirs and trying to sell you by putting you out on Monster you are getting gypped. Hiring companies that might otherwise have been interested will pass over you because your resume screams "extra fees!"

If this is a consulting company you've never worked for that just wants their name out there attached to a good candidate so they can pick up any gigs you might be offered, that's ridiculous and detrimental to you.
