Hi all,

Well, I bought a Gamelink 200x for my X-box, and I haven't opened it yet. Does anyone know if these improve the quality of the sound and video when compared to the cables that came with the console?

These only plug into the RCA inputs. There's no S-video.

Thanks!

Not trying to start a heated debate but here's my 2 cents...

I don't believe that "higher quality" wires make any noticable differences in picture quality and/or audio quality. I got some Monster Cable component cables for my parent's HDTV and progressive scan DVD player...using the supplied cables and using the Monster Cable...no difference at all.

If you're saying that you'll be going from RCAs to s-video, you might notice a slight difference. If however all of your cables are rca, I can't think that microsoft would ship the xbox out with low quality ones(perhaps not the highest quality, but as with MasterHoss's experience, it's usually not noticable).

Assuming you bought these at a local store, I say try it out and see if there's a difference...cables are usually very easy to return...just don't mangle the box. =)

Fancy cables are a waste of money. The only added feature they provide is (usually) a more attractive physical appearance. From an electrical standpoint there is no difference. But this is like a religion to some people, they believe with no physical or scientific proof.

And to add another statement. In general monster cables tend to be over priced pieces of dung. But if you are going from rca to s-video or component for that matter than there will be an increase in pic quality.

Nah, save your money and take the Monster cables back. You won't notice a difference.
I personally got the Monster cables myself for two reasons.
1. I wanted a better connection then composite, and I wanted Dolby Digital.
2. I needed a longer cable run then Microsoft AVPack. (The Monster Cables come in a little over 9ft.)

Monster cable is overpriced for what you get. It's fine cable, but you're just paying extra for a name.

If you don't need a different connection or longer cable, just stick with what came with the xbox.

Oh no.. Not the cable debate again..

I'm not going to say if one is better than the other, but I will say in my experience that if you can get a Monster Silver cable for your X-Box, I would at least try it. I got excellent results with a Monster Silver video cable on my VCR and DVD player.

As for sound, I don't like what cheaper Monster products do to sound. They tend to veil the highs and fatten up the mid-bass. I don't see why you'd want or need something like this for a gaming system anyway. What it might do is make the voices unintelligable because the fatter mid-bass overwhelmes the midrange where the dialog or voices are.

I would try the video cable or even a audio cable for yourself and let your own eyes and ears tell you if it's worth the extra money. Don't listen to anyone else. Just go buy it from a place with a liberal return policy. If you don't see or hear a difference, return it.
