The asshats at the Monster Cable law team are at it again. This time they're suing Monster Mini-Golf trademark infringement. Are they freakin serious!?!? I was thinking Monster energy drink was next but a comment on engadget says they already went after them. I guess the monster in your closet is next on the chopping block. You think they would have learned from the Blue Jeans fiasco.

Nissan still holds the title of bullshit trademark lawsuits in my mind though.

"We're not some big corporate Mongols."

Maybe not, but you're still a bunch of douchebags.

Soon, all kids will have to pay them for dressing up as 'monsters' on Halloween.

How can some company pick a common word like monster for their product then expect the rest of the world to stop using that word? Yes, douchebags.

One of the few cases where if you talk the talk, you do walk the walk.

I wonder which is a worse insult: being called a "douchebag" or a "d-bag"? I think the latter because it can mean so much more.

Whatever happened with the Blue Jeans cable deal? That was a funny read whenever that went down.

In a way I hope they continue their dipshittery and try to sue Disney for Monster, Inc. Instead of bullying the little guys I would love to see them try to take on another asshat company.

They already did :D

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and court records, Monster Cable has gone after other notable monsters:

-- Walt Disney Co., which distributed Pixar Animation Studios' hit film "Monsters, Inc.''

-- Bally Gaming International Inc. for its Monster Slots.

-- Hansen Beverage Co. for a Monster Energy drink.

-- The Chicago Bears, whose nickname is "Monsters of the Midway.''

In most cases, Monster Cable has been able to work out a settlement or nominal licensing agreement, Tognotti said.

Are you fucking kidding me? Monster is a simple, common word. What are the odds that SOMEONE might use it for their company? What a bunch of asshats.

Wow, they are crazy.

I kinda want to make some home business with the word "monster" in it that can also clearly not be confused with Monster Cable just so I can say "Blow me" if they were to bitch about it.

I thought you couldn't trademark dictionary words.

To my understanding, "Monster Cable" is the trademark. You can't trademark "Monster" because its a dictionary word.

I'm thinking that spamming and harassing their customer support help line would be justified. They're an evil company.

Monster would seem too common a word to be able to trademark so widely. There must also be some acknowledgment here of the impossibility of confusion. Who would ever equate Monster Cable with mini-golf?

People should just take this as another reason to not waste their money on Monster Cable.

Plus, Lee sounds like an idiot. "Corporate Mongols"? He seems to be confusing that with moguls. And who uses words like "profitize"?

My vote: douche bag.

Repost and the case was settled already. Was on the consumerist today.

1. Monster Cable will cancel its lawsuit...
2. As long as MonsterMiniGolf pays $100 per month per franchise to MonsterCable
3. MonsterCable in turn will donate $100 per month per MonsterMiniGolf franchise to The Elf foundation or Creating Rooms of Magic, or Seg4Vets: Segways for disabled veterans .
4. Monster MiniGolf gets to keep being MonsterMinGolf
5. A bunch of bloviating about how Monster Cable is the real victim here.
