Monsoon pounds Phoenix, worst flooding in 30 years

Good God. I just drove from east Mesa to my home in Avondale, and half the damn city is underwater.

Thats I-10 right now. Its pretty much shutdown from almost 27th Ave to the loop 101. Rain is expected to continue through most of today, and pick up again later in the evening.

Drove home along McDowell Rd westbound. Its pretty much single lane, a combination of the left lane and turn lane, as the right lanes are under a couple feet of water. I saw vehicles under water in the right lanes on my way, Phoenix PD used their SUV to push a water stalled sports car out of an intersection at 47th and McDowell while I sat in the nearly the same water praying to the gods that my Fit wouldn't stall out too.

When I got home, I called my boss and told him I wasn't coming in tonight due to safety. His exact words, 'thats 10 hours from now, I expect you to come in.' I do believe he can kiss my ass. I will not drive in that again, and I know damn well that these roads aren't going to be cleared by the time I have to go back in, and there's still the issue of driving home again in the morning after another night of rain. Not worth it.

Don't know which I'd hate more -- the half year of 100+ temps and 3 months of 110+ temps, or monsoons. Either way you can have Phoenix...

Wettest day in history already, and it's not 9am.

I called off. I told my teams they can work remotely today instead of driving in.

That happened in my city a month or so ago. 8-10 inches of rain in very short period of time...like several hours. I was at the cottage when it happened so I missed out.

Not even three inches of rain did that much flooding? That's an average/heavy storm at most. Your ground out there must be like concrete.

Exactly. I've seen much more rain fall in Indiana with less flooding than we have out in Phoenix right now. When I first saw the I10 on the news, I thought I was looking at a wash out in the desert.

More rain between about 2:30 AM -> 7:00 AM than for an entire year's precipitation (which is normally about 3"), according to KFYI.
Looks like I-10 in west Phoenix could use some better engineered storm drainage.

Damn I was just there and it was 103. Also why aren't there any solar panels on houses in phoenix? I'd think every house would be decked out.

Well they're desperate for water anyways...
Not Phoenix so much. California (and Nevada) is where they're desperate for potable water, even though the Pacific Ocean is right there waiting to be de-salinated.
...........................................
Idea: re-engineer the water supply system for dual water supply, in California and Nevada, so that every time a toilet is flushed, only non-potable Pacific Ocean sea water would be used to flush the toilet. Maybe also for public display fountains in Las Vegas, spray washing parking lots, etc.
A separately kept potable water supply could thereby be better conserved and made more available for such uses as bathing, dishwashers, clothes washers, drinking water, etc.

Because it is still not cost effective. I'd like to do solar, but every time I've looked into it, it feels like a scam and the numbers don't work out in my favor.

Looking at satellite it's actually outflow from that Hurricane off the west coast feeding all that rain.

But people in here say that clouds don't go that far.

Pretty sure that's not done because salt water is an absolute bitch to work with

Sorry all who live there, but shit, maybe its time to escape from such an inhospitable place and move to some place capable of supporting life?
