Monsoon, Logitech, or Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers?

I was thinking of buying:

Monsoon MM-702 speakers. It is a 2.1, 35 wRMS set. ~$85

Logitech z340. It is a 2.1 32 wRMS set. ~$40

Altec Lansing 621. It is a 2.1 100 wRMS set. ~$105

I will likely be running these on either a Philips serismic or rhythmic edge sound card. I want a good set of speakers that I can use for (in that order) music, games, tv, movies, etc. on the computer. I am well aware of the price difference in these sets, and my question is will buying the more expensive altec or monsoon set be worth the price difference?

I already went to Best Buy and listened to the Altec 641, Klipsch 2.1, and z560. Despite the rave reviews, I thought the z560 sounded quite a bit worse than the klipsch and altec sets (also the high failure stories I always read here). I need a set that can get a small room shaking, but nothing like the insane power of the 4.1 sets above.

I would probably go with the monsoon (because I have heard the quality is fantastic), but I am unsure if the bass is enough for me.

Any experiences, info, general advice on these sets would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a set of the Altec Lansing 621's and they are phenomenal! I bought them after listening to the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's (and was planning to buy Klipsch) and the Logitech Z560's (the Klipsch's sounded awful due to some obvious misconfiguration at the BestBuy store that I was at and I didn't want to troubleshoot their crap!). The Logitech's were too boomy for my taste but did sound very well (definitely the gamer's setup). I listen to music, watch/listen to TV, and occasionally watch DVD's through an ATI AIW card and rarely play games so I was looking for a 2.1 setup anyway. I'm using a SB Audigy MP3+ soundcard...

You can get the 621's here: EMS Computing for $89.00, a f@#$ing STEAL!!! They even have the 641's listed for $107.98!!! Not sure what the shipping charges are but I've heard good things about this etailer...

I'm extremely pleased with the way these Altec's look, the construction, and the sound. I crank them up very often (jazz, metal, pop/rock, etc) and have yet to experience any problem with them! Had them since November of last year...

Thanks for the input HeinekinMan...

I am well aware that the Altec 621 is a nice set. I really need to know if it is actually worth the extra money. If the 3 sets are are pretty close in quality, I'll get the cheaper one, but if there is a real difference, I'm willing to spend the extra money.

I am particularly interesting in hearing thoughts on the monsoon set (especially regarding its bass). I have heard the bass on the z340 and Altec set and it is very powerful. So can the monsoon MM702 bang or am I going to be wishing I went with one of the other two sets?

Thanks...keep it coming!

My friend just bought the Monsoon 5.1 setup and frankly I wasn't that impressed. The bass is really kinda weak IMO. They are beautifully constructed though and have the novelty feature of being tall and flat, but I wouldn't spend the money for them. They sound just a little better than my ~$50 CSW1000 Creative speakers. Next time I go for speakers, I doubt I will go the computer speaker route since you really end up cable length limited and power limited. I will probably go with a conventional home theater setup. It will cost the same and have tons more power and probably a much bigger sub-woofer.

Link removed because it didn't take you to the model, just the category.

I like the Altec Lansing... fairly nice. Of course, if you could spare the extra $$, for $179.99 you can get the ProMedia 2.1

Yeah Ive heard the Klipsch 2.1's and Id love to get them. They are just too expensive for me.

Anyone else have any experience with the Monsoon MM-702's or MM-502's and can tell me if they are worth the extra money over the z340's.

Keep the responses coming...
