Monroe Quick Strut?

I need to replace some worn struts on my 2000 Honda CRV. In the past I have hated the process of compressing the springs, then replacing the strut. I just stumbled upon the Monroe quick strut, which is a strut premounted with a new spring. It seems like my salvation. I've asked my gear head friends and no one has used them. Anyone want to weight in?

Should save a good deal of time but will also cost a lot more then just a strut.

Can't remember if it was here or another fourm but someone installed them and they had a squeak. Had to replace them a couple times beofre they got a good non-squeaky one.

So $$$ or time seems to be the difference.

Yeah they seem to run about $30 more a strut. I was just wondering about the quality. The squeaking feedback is the sort of thing I was looking for. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and mount the struts myself. Does Pepboys or Advanced auto parts rent the strut compression tool? I hate to buy one for $50 to only use it a couple of times.

Well turns out Monroe doesn't make a quick strut for my CRV. I guess that made the decision a bit easier...

I don't know about those places but I have rented from Kragen/Shucks/Checker Auto Parts. (Kragen here in LA)

I don't like messing with the springs either. What I do is just take the old assemblies with my new stuff to a local mechanic and ask him to put it together. I get nice assembled units back for $20. You might look into an arrangement like that with some shops.

Thanks for the info on the quick struts. I guess maybe it's a good thing they don't make them for my car. I ended up getting some kyb struts. I couldn't find a source to rent the spring compressor, so I cashed in a gift card for one at sears. I guess I have one now for my Subaru when it is time for it to get new struts. Thanks to all that replied.
