I'm looking for some in-wall speakers as my rear surrounds. Monoprice has a few options for really cheap. From the reviews, people seem happy with them (for the price) but Im wondering if they're really worth it or not. I dont need the best quality since these are surrounds but I dont want to waste $30-40 either on utter junk.

speakers in question
probably looking at the 5.25" or 6.5" rectangular ones

Setup:
Samsung LN46A650 mounted on a wall 10-12' away
cheap Pioneer HTIB that i bought couple years ago which will eventually (few months) be replaced with a better 2.1 system
I figure I might as well wire the rear speakers to a wall plate behind the tv stand and I can run wires from amp to the wall plate.

Also what's a good height to place in-wall speakers? Ear level (while sitting), a little higher, or up high near the ceiling?
Couch will back right up against the wall that the rear speakers will go in.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but you can only expect so much from $30 a piece speakers. They're probably adequate for the moment, I should think.

that's still below my budget. I want to stay below $100 for the pair but I've never heard of Dayton (not saying much since I havent heard of 99% of the other audio companies either), but is Dayton a good brand?

edit: i guess brand doesnt really matter since I was considering monoprice's generic speakers

Dayton is pretty solid. I wouldn't hesitate in this price range to give them a go.

They're Parts Express' house brand (I think?), but they're fairly well regarded for a low price option. I setup a Dayton 12" subwoofer for a friend of mine and came away fairly impressed with it considering how cheap it was. Its certainly not as good as my Bic Acoustech sub, but it also cost 1/3 the price.

meh, i dont think I need to go all out for surrounds. But looking at dimensions of these speakers (12? H x 8-1/2? W Cutout: 10-1/4? H x 7-1/4?) these are larger than what im looking for. I'm looking for something more inconspicuous - something like satellite speakers. Is there any such thing as a satellite in-wall speaker?

You could go for the smaller Daytons: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe...fm?&Partnumber=300-280
