I really had my heart set on the Sony Clie 320... but the expandablity issue came up. While it can add more memory and an MP3 player... it can't do much else.

I then decided on the Visor Edge... or the Palm m500 (I really like the m500) but the writing area isn't lumiated... and my biggest complaint against palm os units is that you can't see your keystrokes.

Now, I'm looking at a decent yet inexpensive Pocket PC with a monochrome screen. I was considering the older Ipaq Aero 1550... but they're hard to come by...

So who has a recommendation for me?

<< If you are going for B&W then I would suggest the Handspring. I have set clients up with three lately and they all love'em. >>

i'm really attracted to the Edge... but $299... is far too much for that... you can get Pocket PC's cheaper that can do a hell of a lot more... :/ I really am thinking about the Visor Platinum... do you know if the graffitti are is also backlit?

Monochrome for that much? :Q Are we thinking alike? By monochrome, you mean the grayscale, no color one, right? I bought one for my father from uBid.com like 3 months ago for like $160 or so. Don't know if they still have them.

eBay has them for under $200 if you want to go that route.

Amazon has the iPAQ 3135 for $199.99. Amazon doesn't exactly have the cheapest prices so if you look around you can find it for cheaper :)

yeps... monocrome being greyscale... (or in teh case of some palms... black and not black)...

i'm more interested in the battery life than in the pretty colors...

hmmm... i'll look up that particular model and see if I can find it cheaper.

You'll definitely find it cheaper. I think the one on Amazon also had a $50 rebate so it could be $150. I think they also have free shipping for orders over $99.

You might want to check out brighthand.com for more info on PDAs and Pocket PCs. I found it really useful when I was thinking about getting one!

[brag] I got a ipaq3635 for $150 from CompUSA [/brag], most stores are out but I believe they might carry some 3100 series that are discounted because they're discontinued.
