So I got diagnosed with mono two days ago, and boy it sucks. I'm tired all the time, I have no willpower to do anything, and I have zero appetite. Has anybody else ever had it? If so, how long did it take for you to recover?

A few years back I got something that was exactly like Mono but the tests showed that it was not. I missed about 3 weeks of school.

A year later I got it again.

My sister had it.. missed about 3 weeks of school.. took about a month to get over it.

Once you have it, you'll always have it. It'll just lay dormant until it decides to pop back up.

I had it during the middle of hs. I felt extremely fatigued & lost. My doctor told my father, & he chose to keep it from me, because he felt I would use it "as an excuse". Funny thing was, I use to sit behind this chick in Chem with a windbreaker with the word MONO in large bold letters on the back.

I never figured out where I got it, & I still don't feel as if I've recovered either. GL.

Yup, got it when I was pretty young and it became a full blown Epstein-barr infection. Can't tell you how long it really lasted as ever since then I've always felt tired all the fcuking time. Don't mean to scare you though, you'll probably be fine as I have respiratory/sinus issues that are probably the cause of my lethargy.

My fiancee (read: mom) has symptoms her first semester of college and they were going to ask her to leave for the semester if the tests came back positive. They didn't, but she was sick with something really bad for 3-4 weeks.

98% of the time, it never pops back up again.

It is only when you contract it in your teens that it causes the adverse symptoms.

You got it from kissing someone that was infected, which is something like 90% of the worlds population.

It's really not a big deal most of the time. Just be careful, don't do any roughhousing or anything which could rupture your swollen spleen.

Yeah watch out for the spleen.

I've had mono at least twice in my lifetime (go figure), it's horrible, and since the second time I haven't ever felt like I fully recovered. It's not nearly as bad though.

Hope you recover from it and get better.

I've not had it. Never heard of this before in fact.

Mine was a mild to moderate case also. Lasted about 2 weeks, with some pretty intense throat pain. Couldn't eat anything for a few days.

At first, I thought it was strep. Went to the doc. He told me to go home and sleep. Worst 400$ spent EVAR!

heh.

I got a relapse of it a month ago. My sinus issues are still lingering strong, causing post nasal drip that makes me cough my brains out. I'm really tired and weak even though I try to force myself to ride my road bike; my self-timed time trials are now so pathetic I just want to give up. It's a tough virus to deal with, so hang in there.

That's what tipped me off in the first place. The right side of my neck looked like someone punched me. I went to the emergency room at about 1am on Tuesday, and they doctors scared the crap out of me by telling me that it could be either an infection of my lymph nodes, an absess, or lymphoma. I was admitted to the hospital a few hours later. I was seen by about 10 doctors, all trying to figure out what the hell I had, when finally they told me I tested positive for mono, so they discharged me yesterday morning. The doctors told me I can't do anything for at least a month (including drinking, because of my swollen liver :(). This is going to be a crappy summer. :( Thanks for all the well wishes and advice.
