The cable does seem to be permanently attached to the monitor. It's a Compaq😱 [MV720] monitor. If I refuse to do technical work (opening the monitor, cutting up the cable, etc.), does this mean I will have to have the monitor serviced?
If you aren't willing to open up your monitor to replace the cable (assuming you would need to b/c it wasn't designed to be removed) or splice the cable then it seems that your only option is get the monitor serviced. In response to your original question, yes they do make monitors with removable cables but those arent as common as built in cables, especially on OEM monitors. My Viewsonic PF790 certainly has a removable cable. Good luck getting your monitor fixed.
