Yeah, same button on mine. Does nothing, its just there to cover a hole I presume, quite sure its not connected to anything.

Also note that when you OC the X-star/Qnix, the gamma rises, making things slightly darker. So you may have to compensate using a color profile made for it with a colorimeter. Color profiles and more info here (post 855): http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=383822&page=43.

yeah i played with some icc profiles from NCX to correct for it, but they just made it worse in my opinion. the shift is barely perceptible to me without the profiles. I can't believe how massive a difference there is in games from 60 to 96 hz. Its night and day.

Usually I never use color profiles of others (I have a colorimeter to calibrate and make my own). But most of the Qnix/X-stars are very similar in character and some profiles posted there worked well for many at guru3d. I tried Yasamokas 96hz 6500k profile and its very close to my own. But generally speaking, using ICC profiles of others is a hit and miss affair.

I've measured gamma at 2.55 @ 96hz and around 2.90 @ 120hz. A color profile to correct gamma for the 120hz OC is virtually mandatory, but you may get by on a 96hz OC without one. An investment in a colorimeter usually pays off especially if you have a more than one monitor or expect to buy more later on.

do you have a recommendation/link on the unit you use?
 
I use an X-rite Colormunki Display:

There is the X-rite i1display pro which is higher up their product line and which some reviewers (like NCX) use and is highly regarded:

But what I've been able to gather is that the Colormunki display uses the same sensor and is just as accurate, just slower in calibration time.

Either way, avoid using the accompanying software, its not as good as alternative calibration software. DisplayCal GUI/ArgyllCMS is superior to it in every way, but be prepared for a lot of reading. It may seem intimidating at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

what do use for the software end of it?
 
Question on OC these panels. I found a nice review from a poster named NCX that seems to be a bit of a monitor expert and his guide says for Nvidia cards you just make a custom resolution and set your refresh rate and thats it. no need to touch timings or any other settings. That worked. What needs to be done with AMD and CCC?

Custom Resolution Utility will get the job done.

I use it with my nvidia card as well, some games don't do custom resolutions added in control panel, and I don't like full window.
 
I use the nVidia control panel, custom resolution method. It will work in games as long as you install a monitor driver, which is available on the big OCN thread. I keep my Xstar at 90Hz, and I use an ICC profile with CPKeeper as well.

EVGA pixel tool is easy as cake to use for Nvidia cards.

I did not install a monitor driver and my Xstar is working at 96hz in Bf4 - havent tried any other game yet though....
