Monitors

NEC/Mitsubishi in my personal opinion. We had some Viewsonics at work, and I just didn't care for them in general.

I am a big fan of Mitsubishi (these days that means NEC as well) also. I have had a few over the years and most (my 22" Diamond Pro 2040u and 19" Diamond Pro 900u). I had an old 21" NEC XE21 though that crapped out after only 3 years or so. For a $1000+ monitor (it wasn't the top of the line at the time though, I think that was the XP21) I was not too happy with that. Other then that one though I have had great experiences with them. Now that I have gotten my first LCD I don't really like CRTs at all anymore, but if I had to buy another I would get another Mitsu.

I've had a NEC FE2111SB for about half a year now. I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem is that the image drifts a half centimeter the first half-hour it's on - nothing big. If I had to buy it again though I think I'd go with the top end NEC/Mitsu 2070/2141 (might have those models slightly wrong) as it was only about a hundred bucks more.

From what I've read and personal experience it takes a CRT a half hour to warm up and stabilize before it should be adjusted. After that when it's turned on(not from stand-by)it take a half hour to be it's best. Just the nature of the beast I guess.. BTW, I bought a used 2060u Mits and it's heaven for now.

So it looks like Mitsubishi is superior to Viewsonic...

No, it looks like most of the people who've posted so far only have NEC/Mit monitors and are satisfied with them without comparing them to ViewSonic experience, that doesn't make one superior over the other. The two monitors on my desk right now happen to be a NEC MultiSync XV17+ and a ViewSonic E90fb. They're both great monitors for their class, although I've always had a problem with the NEC re-positioning when I have it centered just right, it will always jerk 3 cm over to the left, so I have to have it off-center to the right so that it won't recoil back, kinda of a nuisance but I got used to it. Also it makes a sickeningly loud sound when turning on (demagnetizing), I fear that each time I turn it on it may implode and take my hard drive with it.
