Monitors flat or normal crt

I ve just purchased a flat 19inch philips CRT, i had a normal 19 inch philips monitor before

1. The display seems to a bit hollow compared to my prev monitor, it is flat but the screen seems to be inside.
2. Which is better in the long run a flat or a normal crt.(whats the basic diff bet a flat and a normal)
3. Will all the flat monitors have a gap between the screen and the outer frame, so i feel that my normal monitor looked bigger than this one. moreover screen inside seems to a bit convex not completely flat why is that.
