I had a 17" CRT monitor for about 4 years that died last December. It started by shaking along the edges. Within a few weeks the whole picture would distorted and resize. This would happenonce every minute or so. For about 2 months I was using a spare 15"CRT, then I bought a Samsung 997DF (19" CRT), and have been happy with it for about 4 months. Well its happening again, the picture is distorting along the edges, and my eyes are straining like crazy (new symton). This time its under warranty although I need to pay $50 for shipping.

Just wonder if anybody has had this problem before?

Make sure you don't have any power cords or analog signal wires passing close to the screen. They can create the type of problem you're describing. Also be sure your speakers are at a suficient distance as well.

I agree -- "shaky monitor syndrome" is almost always the result of EMI in the immediate area.

The usual culprits: Power cords running nearby (especially extension cords), transformers (AKA "power bricks"/"wall warts") physically nearby or on the same circuit, any kind of electric motor either physically nearby or on the same circuit (fans, compressors, air conditioners/humidifiers/dehumidifiers, refrigerators, washing machines/dishwashers, etc.), any high-draw device being used nearby or plugged into the same circuit (power tools, electric heaters, etc.).

Try moving the computer and monitor to a different physical location, and onto a different circuit if possible. If the problem goes away, then start looking for what is causing the interference.

The only electronic item added during that time was an inkjet printer, so I doubt that is it. But I'll play around with the cords, see if something got damaged or degraded.

How about speakers? If they aren't magnetically shielded they are another possiblility as well.
