monitoring lockups with software?

Have a issue with a server running debian, it seems to lockup for unexplained reasons.
The logs look clean, nothing out of the ordinary.
We can't be sure it is a lockup though, since we don't have physical access to it to troubleshoot that way.
The only thing we have to go by is that we can't ssh in or ping the server, and the server isn't sending any data out.
When we issue a hardware reset, we once again get net access to it, and doing last shows 'reboot system boot'.

This got me thinking, if the server was locked up, then it wouldn't have that in the last logs would it? I would assume it would show nothing?

I am also wondering what software could be used to troubleshoot this server?
Already did RAM tests, and that came up clean. HDs are also fine. CPU as well.
Also did a clean install of debian as well. Didn't help.
