Monitor Won't Turn On After Going To Standby

Hey guys,

So I've had this problem ever since I built my computer. Whenever my monitor goes to sleep due to inactivity, or if I turn it off and leave the computer for a significant amount of time, the monitor will not detect my PC's input when I come back to it. The only way I can fix this problem is by unplugging the monitor from the computer and then plugging it back in. Every once in a while this doesn't work and I have to restart the computer. And sometimes, the monitor will turn on when I come back to my computer as it normally should (although this happens only seldomly).

To be clear, its as if the monitor ceases to detect the PC when it goes to sleep due to inactivity. Does anyone have any idea why this is? All relevant specs should be in my sig, but I'd be more than happy to provide additional info.

Any help or insight you guys might provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS - I couldn't decide if this belongs in the video card forum or the monitor forum, since it is a problem related to both. Sorry if this is improperly posted.

First and foremost, try re-installing your video card drivers with the latest version (try beta drivers too). If you don't use the IGP then disable it in your BIOS. There might be a weird phenomena where Windows is confused about which graphics adapter to use and sends the signal to your IGP. I have also heard disabling your PLL Voltage in your BIOS will fix this issue, though, I can't confirm it and may only be in a small set of circumstances.

If none of this helps, then when your computer goes to sleep unplug all your USB connections and see what happens. I have seen keyboards give feedback to the motherboard and cause weird problems.

Here is a site with more detailed info they may help resolve or at least isolate your problem: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html

Good Luck!

Pretty sure it's hardware related, probably the same thing that requires you to turn your monitor on and off on restarts.

This was a HUGE problem with Catalyst 12.4 last year. Are you using old drivers by chance? If so, update to 13.4.

Are you using displayport? I believe there are issues with non-vesa displayport cables

Going into the Power Options did the trick. I told the computer to never turn off the display. That seems to have done the trick. Thanks!
