Monitor wont power up

I have a P4 2.6 Ghz with an intel d845pebt2 mother board with a gainward Ti4200 video card. If I power the system completly down and then power it back up the monitor(Sony G420) will not power up. Windows Xp appears to start normally(hard drive spins, keyboard lights flash etc. I have also tried a different monitor with the same results. The only way I can get the monitor to power up to unplug power the the system and then reset the bios backup battery. This can't be a windows problem because I can never see the bios boot screen or anything.

Thanks

check to be sure your BIOS is set to default to the right videocard option. Should be set to AGP instead of PCI.

Hope this does the trick.

Known problem with that Chinese video card. Almost any pci video card will work better, or get a replacement AGP card. If your funds are limited, go to www.computergeeks.com or www.pcsurplusonline.com. Just about any AGP card will work more reliably than the Gainward (just one of its many names)... Trident, S3, Diamond, ATI, Intel, etcs. The ATI refurbished are excellent for everything but games. If you need a gamer card, spend some real money. You will be continually frustrated by what you have, and a warranty replacement will be as bad.
