posting this for a friend, because I don't know whats up. so im asking you for help

Hey guys, I need help with my PC. Something really strange happened today and I can't fix it.

I was sitting on my computer this morning, was playing and everything was fine. I got up and went to take a shower. As I got back to my room, I see my computer on the "Shutting Down" screen. That's weird, why would that happen? Nobody is around to touch it. I tried to turn it on after it shut down, and nothing. The computer is on, I can hear it logging into windows through my headphones, but the monitor is black. WTF could have changed in the 10 minutes that it took me to shower? I have windows auto update turned off, been like that for at least month so it couldn't have been that.

Here it is a few hours have passed and nothing has changed. I connected my PS4 to my monitor through an HDMI cord and it worked so clearly the monitor is functioning. The second I connect it back to the PC it stops reacting. It's the GPU isn't it? But why would it happen like that? Normal shut down like someone on purposely clicked "Shut Down" instead of t just dying if it did die, right?

Any help? I dunno what to do.
he said he tried connecting his monitor to the port on his mobo but that didn't work either

any ideas

Did he try to boot in VGA mode or no post screen at all?

The onboard video could be disabled with the discreet card in. Try pulling the card, reset BIOS and then try.

Was it overclocked?

If a discreet card, it could have overheated. Impossible to guess the Windows shutdown situation (someone else could have been there, could have been going into hibernation, etc).

Probably wouldn't hurt to have some specs, and to know if there is an alternate video output (onboard graphics, discreet card, etc).
