Monitor with dual-inputs is flaky

I have a strange problem. There are two DVI ports on the back of my monitor, the DS-263N. I plug my computer into one of the ports and it usually works. If I plug it into the other port, it works for a moment and then nothing. If I plug another input while the PC is connected, that's ok, but if I try to switch inputs using the button on the front of the monitor, then everything is screwed.

Next: if I try to plug my cable-box HDMI->DVI into the first input, it will not work unless I first plug the PC and remove it from that port. Then I may go ahead and plug the cable-box into that port. It will then work, but only if I don't touch anything after that.

So I can't have two inputs, and I can only have the cable-box plug into the first input if I first plug the PC into the input and remove it.

If you thought that was confusing to read, it was even harder to describe. Sorry.
