I've got a problem with my monitor - Dell 2408WFP. I've had it about 2.5 years now.
This has just started happening in the last month or so.
It's a little hard to describe, but I can't seem to add attachments, so I don't know how to upload a screenie...
Anyway, on my black desktop background, to the right of every icon, and about the same width and height as the icons, are a bunch or red pixels, with the farthest right edge "shimmering" a bit. I guess it's like as if every icon is casting a red pixel shadow.
It's there in other applications too, Lightroom, AE, VLC...
I've reset the monitor, etc. but to no avail.
I'm running through DVI from a Radeon 4890, but I've unplugged the cable and the problem remains on he OSD, so it looks like it's 100% a monitor problem.
The pixels will change around, too...It's not as if they're stuck or permanently like that.
And it does fix itself too, but right now it's been like this for a few hours, the longest I've seen. Restarting the computer, powering off and on the monitor...nothing changes. When it does change back to normal it seems to just do it on its own.
I hope the monitor isn't dying...it cost a bit...

Cheers

That sounds like what I have seen a few times and it has ended up being a bad cap in the contrast circuit.

Hmmm, that sounds like something that would require the monitor to be sent in to Dell, right?
This morning (and now for about 1.5 hours or so) the monitor has been on and fine...I was wondering if it was maybe a heat thing. I'll have to keep checking.

I opened the screenshot that I wasn't able to post yesterday, and you can't see any of the red in it. So I guess it's not really a "part" of the pixels being represented on the screen. Something that happens post pixel-sending, I guess...

If you really wanted to post something depicting how it looks, you'll have to take a pic of the screen and post that.

Now, ... if you want to explore the bad-caps possibility we can help. This does not need to go back to Dell (unless it's under warranty). All you need is some soldering skills and perseverance.

It didn't happen yesterday, nor has it happened today so far...
If it pops up again I'll take a picture (but at the bottom of the page it says "You may notpost attachments.
As or soldering...I don't have any of the equipment...but if I could get my hands on what's needed I don't mind playing around...
Thanks for the info folks...I'll post again when it happens again.
