I've read through a bit of the LCD buyers guide post.

First off, what I have now is a NEC 20.1" 16:10 20GXW2 (AS-IPS)
Its worked great for me (other than the power button sorta stopped working).
To me it looks great for gaming and movie watching and the bit of photo editing I do now n then.

I'm just after something larger, and higher resolution to go along with my video card upgrade.

1st off, this is going to be mainly used for gaming, lets say 85% of the time. FPS and MMOs primarily. And I'm one that does notice the difference between a smooth 60+ FPS, and can tell when things drop much under 40 FPS.

I still want something that will display videos/movies and look good. Which is 10% of my usage.

And finally, photo editing (5%), I don't really do much in depth color correction..but do borders, sharpening, auto correction...the simple Photoshop stuff...

The TN BenQ 24" in the LCD guide looks like its great for what its categorized for, gaming.
I also eyeballed the Planar 25.5" listed in the same guide further down in the gaming section, which utilizes a H-IPS panel.

The only thing I'm concerned with is the Planar 26" has significantly more delay, even compared to my current monitor.

Thanks for any suggestions or more info.

I am absolutely in love with my Samsung T240HD. Everyone who see's it comments about how good video looks on it, and it is quite decent for gaming.

The viewing angle is sorta harsh though, but it's a non-issue for me.

Regular T240 is supposed to have less input lag than the T240HD from what I've been reading, hence would be better for the OP given his 85% gaming requirement.

FYI, NCIXUS is currently selling the BenQ G2400WD for ~ $326 shipped with zero dead pixel guarantee. Just went back on sale today I believe.

i got the T240 for $280 shipped and it is a pretty damned good monitor. i was moving up from a Viewsonic VX2025WM which i believe wasn't a TN panel so i'm actually downgrading in panel-technology. Picture quality seems identical to me and gaming is also amazing. i have NO problems playing fast paced-fps games and dont notice any blurring, ghosting or lag.

i'm not sure what everyone is talking about TN panels having bad viewing angles. i put on a 1080p movie on my computer and moved back about 5 feet and watched it OFF CENTER about 3 body widths to the side of "center" and the picture quality was just as good.
Vertical viewing angles? i dont even think its physically possible for me to look at the monitor from the bottom, my desk is in the way, this is a non-factor.

this is my only 24in monitor experience and can only compare it to my viewsonic vx2025wm. the backlight bleeding is much better on the t240, on the Viewsonic, there would be an "X" figure of backlight coming from the corners in a dark scene or in a movie with black bars on top and bottom.

After some more research and reading reviews/comments etc.. I'm sorta of afraid of downgrading to the TN panel..

I found the: NEC MultiSync LCD2490WUXi-BK 24" model

I know it doesn't look like a 'great' gaming monitor with the input lag, but it otherwise looks like a great choice...
Can anyone with this monitor give some info on how it looks for gaming?
Is smearing/ghosting evident?

Maybe I'll be sticking w/ my current monitor a little while longer.. hmmm
