So i've had this system for some time and just out of the blue it started having this strange problem.

When i load windows it will turn the monitor off after the windows logo, go black, and blink off and on on the power button. It turns back on after windows fully loads and goes to the desk top.

I'm fine with this, because it at least turns back on. However, when loading most games or a full screen program, it turns off perminately unless i minimize that program/game and hit the power button on my monitor and turn the power off for at least 1 minute.

I'm running XP pro os, on a x800xl and a viewsonic lcd vx922 2ms.
mobo dfi ultra-d

Things i have tried:

Bought new hard drive for space, and decided to try a fresh installation off everything with new drivers.

Forcing the refresh rate and locking it just in case the switch between games/ refresh rates had something to do with it. Also tried other methods of tinkering with the refresh rates.

Checking the pin's on the connectors to make sure none were bent and not making a full connection.

All these have failed. I'm all out of ideas, if anyone can make any suggestions on something to try. PLEASE let me know.

I don't have another monitor or video card to swap out to trouble shoot and see if one is bad too.

Thanks for your time, hopefully someone knows something.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling motherboard/vga drivers. If you have already done that, I would hook the monitor up to a different computer to test it. Have you unplugged the power from the monitor and let it sit for a while. Or is there a auto calibration to reset it?

I've seen failing PSs do many strange things. Not your particular symptoms, but other strange happenings.

I'd be swapping with a decent PS.

Good Luck!

The funny thing is the only way to get it to turn back on is to actually turn the monitor off for like a couple minutes after i've loaded somethinng, then just turn it back on. And yes there is a auto calibration.

My psu is a ocz modstream 520watt.

I'm fairly sure this is either a dying monitor or bad video card. First test the monitor. Can you try what superunknown98 said and get another monitor? If it doesn't do the same thing, then you know there is a problem with the monitor.

If the other monitor does the same thing, you know it's video card related. First try updating the drivers for your card and see if that helps(i doubt it but its easy) The only way to test it is to try another card to see if it clears up. If you have a dvi input on both you can try that instead of vga.. or use a dvi/vga adapter to isolate the probem if it's the port on the monitor. One last thing that doesn't make any sense to me, I have an acer 24 inch that acts up sometimes, "no signal" message at random times, I plugged the power cable into a different outlet and it works fine now.
