Monitor turning blank

Hi there i have noticed something unusual in my computer in the recent days...

While working on my computer, suddenly the monitor screen in turning blank..( just like switching off the monitor) at this point of time nothing works but every thing is on...
Even the RESET button dosent work... What i do is switch the power button off and then RESTART the computer again ....

Is there any problem with the motherboard or SMPS or the display card..
Please help me fix the problem..

System configration..
1. Windows XP sp2
2. Radeon 8500 64mb display card
3. 512MB RAM
4. 80GB hard drive..

U did not mention ur system specs -- ur CPU & Mobo

I had a similar Problem with my brand New socket 775 P4 2.8 ghz on an ASUS P5GD1-VM 915 chipset based mobo. I changed my Power Supply. & I refitted the CPU heat Sink again applying some Thermal Paste on the CPU. cos i had seen my CPU used to get hot b4 the Problem arised. If it is an Asus Motherboard -- i guess its some Voltage or Heat Issue which triggers the Mobo sensors to halt down system

yeah .... i was able to solve the problem.. it was the power supply (SMPS).
i changed it.
Now things are stable..
